Obituary for Jacquelyn (Jackie) MacDonald

Jacquelyn (Jackie)  MacDonald
Jacquelyn (Jackie) MacDonald passed away on February 6, 2018 at Essentia-St. Joseph’s Medical Center. Jackie was born February 2, 1924 in St. Paul, Minnesota. She attended grade school and junior high in Crosby Ironton and graduated from Washington High in Brainerd in 1941.
During World War II she and her parents lived in California while her dad worked in the shipyards. Upon returning to Brainerd in 1945, she was employed at the J.C. Penney Company until her marriage on June 17, 1947 to Lee D. MacDonald. Lee was a member of the 194th Tank Battalion and had been on the Bataan Death March. Jackie was a current member of the Brainerd Garden Club, American Legion Auxiliary #255, Brainerd VFW Auxiliary, R.S.V.P., and Crow Wing Chapter of A.M.I. and Lakes Area Senior Center, Donut Ladies, The American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor’s, and NAMI. Jackie was an honorary member of the 194th Tank Battalion. She was also a past member of the Minnesota Horticulture Society, Lake Region Chapter of ex-POW’s, and Secretary for the Class of ’41 Reunion Committee.
She enjoyed her luncheons with the Lunch Bunch, Birthday Club, and Class of ’41 members. Her spare time was filled with knitting, crossword puzzles, mystery books, and gardening.
She is survived by her sons: Brian of St. Cloud, Steven of Brainerd; grandsons, Joel MacDonald of Valdosta, GA, Geoffrey MacDonald of Beeville, TX; granddaughter; Michelle Gonzales of Beeville, TX; great-grandchildren: Autumn, Derik and Bryan of Beeville, TX; also, many cousins and friends in the area.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Gladys Lee; her husband, Lee D. MacDonald.
A memorial service remembering Jackie’s life will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at 11AM at Halvorson Johnson Funeral Home – BRAINERD CHAPEL. Visitation will be one hour prior to the memorial service, Tuesday at the Funeral Home.
